Autonomous driving software specialist PlusAI has recently launched Level 4 autonomous fleet trial program with International. The latter is a truck maker belonging to the TRATON Group, and is being cooperating with PlusAI in order to develop suitable autonomous driving solutions in the trucking sector.

Now, the program places a factory-integrated International autonomous truck powered by the patented PlusAI SuperDrive virtual driver into a live freight operation. As part of the trial, the partner Ryder System is operating a daily 600-mile route along the I-35 corridor between Ryder locations in Laredo and Temple, Texas

PlusAI’s autonomous fleet trial program: the very first results

According to the partners, Initial results from the pilot include:

  • 100% on-time delivery
  • 92% autonomous route coverage, supervised by a human safety driver
  • Pre-trip inspections under 30 minutes, in line with current expectations
  • Improved fuel efficiency

By bringing together OEM expertise, fleet operations, and AI-native autonomous driving technology, we’re helping to shape autonomy from a concept into a practical, deployable solution within existing operations.

Statements from the partners

“In partnering with fleet customers to determine path-to-deployment, we’re focused on integrating factory-ready virtual driver software into existing transport operations, without the need for dedicated autonomous terminals,” said James Cooper, head of Autonomous Solutions, International. “The mission is to deliver a quality, OEM-validated solution to ensure our customers receive the reliability and valued experience they trust from International.”

“For Ryder, this pilot represents an important step forward—moving beyond terminal- and maintenance-focused trials to evaluating autonomy in live operations,” added Seth deVlugt, senior director of RyderVentures & new product strategy at Ryder. “The insights we gain here will help us further understand how autonomy could potentially be applied across portions of the supply chain.”

Finally, David Liu, CEO of PlusAI, commented: “PlusAI’s collaboration with International and Ryder focuses on validating an OEM factory-integrated autonomous solution in real-world logistics operations. By combining vehicle platform expertise, operational scale, and our AI-native SuperDrive™ system, we are working toward validating commercial readiness while enabling continuous improvement. Every mile driven helps to strengthen our system’s intelligence, safety, and efficiency. Our goal is to accelerate the path to scalable, self-driving freight operations that deliver lasting value to fleet and OEM partners”.
