Primary Chinese battery maker CATL is developing a battery swapping systems conceived for heavy-duty electric trucks. The website Electrive reported the news a few days ago. According to Electrive, the system, “called Qiji Energy, consists of exchange stations, battery packs and a cloud platform. The process is said to take only a few minutes”.

CATL has already installed a battery swapping station for passenger cars in China, as we wrote here about one year ago.

The solution developed by CATL, which supplies battery cells and packs to several manufacturers all over the world, integrates the hardware as well the software parts, with a cloud platform completing the solution itself. It’s quite interesting that the batteries can be apparently swapped out from truck models with different wheelbases.
