Lease and rental specialist TIP Group, Italian-based SolarEdge e-Mobility, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Transport Europe share a three-party project aimed at launching launch a solar-powered e-reefer with energy recuperation axle. Named Powered Trailer, this e-reefer may represent a game-changing development in logistics, integrating various renewable energy sources—battery, solar, and recuperation energy—to power the refrigeration unit with free-of-charge clean energy.

The fully electric MITSUBISHI TEF1500 refrigeration unit, with the highly efficient inverter technology, completely replaces the diesel engine normally used for trailer refrigeration with an electric-powered solution. TIP Group is renting this eco-friendly and cost-effective solution to Zippel Fresh, which will pilot the solution over the coming months. Of course, the Powered Trailer is an attractive option for fleet operators seeking long-term sustainability.

Statements from the companies involved in the e-reefer project

“The SolarEdge e-Mobility e-reefer is the first of its kind to combine and test all three power sources—battery, solar, and energy recuperation—into a single solution. This unique set-up allows us to deliver proven, effective solutions directly to fleet operators. By testing and validating these technologies ourselves, we empower our customers to focus on their core business while taking a significant step towards reducing fuel consumption and operational costs”, commented Rogier Laan, Vice President Sales and Marketing at TIP Group.

“As the demand for sustainable logistics grows due to stricter regulations, corporate responsibility, and shifting public opinion, companies that embrace these technologies not only comply with regulations but also position themselves as industry leaders in sustainability”, added Pavel Gilman, Senior Director Sales & Marketing and Project Management at SolarEdge e-Mobility.
