Following the recent statements held by top management, including CEO Filosa, Stellantis may add another move towards a very different strategy compared to the one outlined by former CEO Carlos Tavares. Now, it seems that the automotive giant may withdraw from battery joint venture established with Korean player Samsung SDI.

Stellantis and Samsung SDI to part ways?

Indeed, under the StarPlus Energy brand, the two companies were expected to build two gigafactories in Indiana, U.S., precisely in the city of Kokomo, with annual production capacity of 23 GWh initially for the first one. It’s still uncertain whether Samsung SDI will continue along the path traced with Stellantis, or a third party will joint the initiative.

Under the brand-new strategy outlined and communicated by Filosa, Stellantis may require less battery packs for its vehicles, compared to some years ago. In addition, the global automotive company has just withdrawn, together with Mercedes and TotalEnergies, from the project of two further gigafactories under the ACC brand. The plants were supposed to be built in Italy (Termoli) and Germany (Kaiserslautern).
