Swedish freight technology company Einride has signed a definitive agreement to acquire U.S.-based Flipturn, a developer of charging and energy management software for electric fleets, in a move that significantly broadens its North American charging ecosystem and software capabilities. The all-stock transaction, valued at $38.4 million, is expected to close later this month.

More than a simple acquisition, the deal reflects Einride’s strategy of building an integrated platform that combines fleet operations, charging infrastructure and energy management under a single software environment. By bringing Flipturn into its portfolio, the company will add more than 250 MW of charging capacity under management, more than doubling its existing energy assets while gaining access to fleets operating in truckload transport, autonomous trucking and last-mile delivery.

Einride to acquire Flipturn in North America

The acquisition also strengthens Einride’s software stack. Flipturn’s platform monitors charging infrastructure, optimises charging schedules and power delivery, helps reduce electricity costs and manages charger availability and driver access. Combined with Einride’s AI-based Saga platform, the company aims to offer fleet operators a more comprehensive solution for planning both freight operations and energy use.

Beyond the technology itself, the move highlights an increasingly important trend in the electrification of heavy-duty transport. As fleets scale up battery-electric truck deployments, charging infrastructure and energy management are becoming strategic assets rather than supporting services. By integrating these capabilities directly into its business, Einride is positioning itself to reduce charging costs, improve charger utilisation and negotiate better access to third-party charging networks across North America.

For the North American market, where charging infrastructure remains one of the main barriers to wider adoption of electric heavy-duty vehicles, the acquisition signals that competition is shifting beyond vehicle deployment towards the control of the broader charging and energy ecosystem.
