Germany leads in Europe in terms of public chargers for heavy-duty vehicles. A study by EAFO
1,512 public HDV recharging stations are now operational in the EU-27, located across 444 public recharging pools. 18 EU countries already host at least one HDV-capable location. Germany leads with 495 stations, and 98 pools. Then, Sweden boasts 278 stations, and 108 pools. The Netherlands have 246 stations, and 89 pools.

Germany is the leading nation in Europe in terms of publicly accessible charging points for heavy-duty vehciles. This is the result of a study conducted by EAFO, the European Alternative Fuels Observatory. The whole research can be found here.
In general terms, 1,512 public HDV recharging stations are now operational in the EU-27, located across 444 public recharging pools. 18 EU countries already host at least one HDV-capable location. Germany leads with 495 stations, and 98 pools. Then, Sweden boasts 278 stations, and 108 pools. The Netherlands have 246 stations, and 89 pools. Following are Denmark (158 stations, 41 pools) and France (105 stations, 35 pools). Italy, for instance, is quite far away.
Public chargers for heavy-duty vehicles: the data are already available
As pointed out by the EAFO, most of these facilities are mixed-use sites where HDV chargers coexist with light-duty vehicle infrastructure, while a smaller but growing share is exclusively dedicated to HDVs, reflecting early progress in the transition towards zero-emission freight and bus transport.
Also, the data, now visible on EAFO’s EU27 Country Comparison page, will be soon integrated into each country page and the TEN-Tec Interactive Map Viewer, where users will soon be able to view the same data as recharging pools. Updates will follow monthly, in line with EAFO’s regular data service.
