Japanese Toyota and Chinese Sinotruk have recently signed a valuable strategic cooperation agreement aimed at exploring possible cooperation in the field of hydrogen-powered trucks. Both companies have agreed to collaborate on the R&D of fuel cell systems and the development of the FCEV (fuel cell electric vehicle) market in China, with a particular focus on heavy-duty trucks.

Toyota and Sinotruk to explore possible cooperation

According to China Hydrogen Bulletin, Sinotruk, among the largest producers of heavy-duty trucks in China, sold 245,000 vehicles in 2024, representing 27% of the domestic market. In the same year, the company also sold 6,166 new energy trucks, including both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and FCEVs. This strategic partnership is expected to strengthen both parties’ positions in the hydrogen vehicle sector.

Toyota is then willing to face the strong competition on new energy vehicles in China, in order to explore the broad opportunities on the Asian market. Toyota has also participated in the latest ACT Expo exhibition, held at the end of April in Anaheim.
