Volvo Group establishes dedicated mining business, bringing together trucks and autonomous solutions
Volvo Group is establishing a new business entity dedicated to the mining industry. Starting January 1, 2027, Volvo Mining will bring together the Group's trucks, construction equipment and autonomous solutions under a single structure, initially targeting customers in Sweden, Norway and Finland before expanding into other markets.

Volvo Group has announced the creation of Volvo Mining, a dedicated business entity designed to strengthen its position in the global mining industry. The new organisation will officially begin operations on January 1, 2027, within Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE).
The initiative will bring together the Group’s capabilities in commercial vehicles, construction machinery and autonomous transport solutions, offering mining companies and contractors a more integrated portfolio of products and services.
The new entity will have dedicated financial resources and will be responsible for managing the Group’s global mining product and service portfolio, while also coordinating research activities across its different business areas.

Volvo Mining to start in Northern Europe
Initially, Volvo Mining will focus on Sweden, Norway and Finland, with plans for a gradual expansion into additional markets.
The strategy reflects the increasing demand for integrated solutions in mining operations, where trucks, construction equipment and autonomous vehicles often operate together in demanding environments.
“Mining has been an important part of the Volvo Group for decades, but the industry’s growing significance calls for an even greater level of focus,” said Melker Jernberg, President of Volvo CE.
According to Jernberg, bringing together the Group’s expertise will create new opportunities in a strategically important market.
For Volvo Trucks, the initiative is also an opportunity to strengthen its position among mining operators seeking reliable transport solutions and long-term partnerships.
“Success in the mining industry is built over time. Customers make long-term investments and value trusted partners that combine high performance, operational expertise, and a deep understanding of their business,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “By creating one organization focused solely on creating a world-class product and services portfolio for the mining industry, with an end-to-end perspective, we can better leverage the Volvo Group offer in a more seamless approach.”
Autonomous transport and lower emissions among the priorities
The new organisation will also draw on the expertise of Volvo Autonomous Solutions, as mining companies increasingly seek to improve operational efficiency, safety and environmental performance.
Autonomous technologies can play a particularly important role in mining environments, where repetitive transport operations take place within defined industrial sites.
Volvo Group intends to combine its autonomous driving capabilities with its existing vehicle and equipment portfolio, offering solutions that address different stages of mining operations, from excavation and loading to material transportation.

Per-Erik Lindstrom appointed Head of Volvo Mining
Per-Erik Lindstrom, currently Senior Vice President of Volvo Trucks International, has been appointed Head of Volvo Mining, effective January 1, 2027. “As the mining industry evolves, customers are looking for partners who can help them improve productivity, strengthen safety and meet growing sustainability expectations,” Lindstrom said. “Our goal is to be a long-term partner in that transformation, helping customers create greater value through the combined strengths of Volvo Group.”
