AUMOVIO expands into fleet charging with new VDO solutions
AUMOVIO is expanding its commercial vehicle electrification business with a new range of VDO-branded charging solutions for electric fleets. Set to debut at IAA Transportation 2026, the offering combines AC and DC charging infrastructure with vehicle technology and digital fleet management for trucks, buses and special-purpose vehicles.

AUMOVIO is expanding its offering for electric commercial vehicles with a new range of VDO-branded charging solutions, moving beyond onboard vehicle technology to connect charging infrastructure with digital fleet management.
The new portfolio will make its debut at IAA Transportation 2026 and is specifically designed for commercial vehicle fleets operating electric trucks, buses and special-purpose vehicles at depots, fleet yards and company sites.
The move gives AUMOVIO a broader position in commercial vehicle electrification. Alongside components and software integrated into the vehicle by OEMs, the company now wants to address what happens once an electric vehicle returns to the depot: when it needs to charge, how much energy is available and how the charging process fits into everyday fleet operations.
“Electrification in commercial vehicles is primarily a matter of cost-effectiveness, scalability, and feasibility in real-world operations,” said Georg Fässler, head of the Commercial and Special Vehicles segment at AUMOVIO.
VDO moves into charging infrastructure
The new VDO charging infrastructure portfolio includes both AC and DC charging stations, ranging from mobile solutions to high-power systems for fleet applications.
AUMOVIO is targeting electric bus depots, logistics and distribution fleets, municipal and industrial fleets and company sites. The company also sees charging as part of a wider energy infrastructure that can include photovoltaic generation and battery storage. Crucially, however, AUMOVIO does not intend to treat the charging station as a standalone product.
Charging infrastructure will be connected to the VDO Fleet Ecosystem, allowing information from vehicles, chargers and other digital applications to be combined. Fleet operators can therefore access data including charging status, energy consumption, vehicle availability and active charging sessions.
The idea is to give operators a clearer picture of which vehicles are available, which need to be charged and how individual charging sessions can be integrated into daily schedules. Partner solutions can also provide information on charger availability within the depot.
“In fleet operations, charging must work simply and reliably,” added Georg Kliewer, head of special vehicles in AUMOVIO’s Commercial and Special Vehicles segment. “Together with our partners, we link infrastructure, vehicle data, and services so that operators can better manage their processes and vehicles can remain available.”
From onboard technology to fleet operations
For commercial vehicle manufacturers, the company already supplies technologies including vehicle-to-charger communication control units, energy and charging management systems, battery and onboard electrical functions, as well as software and engineering services covering vehicle integration and validation.
AUMOVIO had previously announced that its IAA portfolio would also include battery management systems, cell contacting systems and DC/DC converters.
By adding charging infrastructure under the VDO brand, the company is therefore attempting to connect the different parts of the electric vehicle ecosystem – from onboard components and charging communication to the physical charger and fleet management software.
AUMOVIO will showcase the new solutions alongside its broader commercial vehicle technology portfolio at IAA Transportation in Hannover from September 14 to 20.
