Bosch has recently inaugurated the new site for Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems in Chongqing, China. Equipped with the largest Class-A fuel cell (powertrain) research and development center of Bosch, the site encompasses approximately 240,000 square meters and accommodates various functions, including engineering development, testing, manufacturing, and sales management.

Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems has been actively strengthening its localized research and development initiatives and expanding its product portfolio to meet the demands of the Chinese market since its establishment in 2021. To date, Bosch has successfully introduced a range of fuel cell power modules, ranging from 76 kW, 134 kW, to 190 kW, effectively addressing diverse application scenarios of commercial vehicles, including urban mobility, logistics, and medium-duty to heavy-duty long-distance transportation.

Bosch fuel cell modules to be commercialized in China

The 300 kW fuel cell power module has already been deployed in customer vehicles for experimental purposes. Today, the accumulating mileage of vehicles equipped with Bosch fuel cell power modules has exceeded 3.6 million km. Bosch Hydrogen Powertrain Systems has also introduced the heavy-duty electrified rigid electric axle featuring high efficiency, integration, and lightweight. This electric axle is a unit that integrates the gearbox, electric motor, and differential into a common housing.

“We remain committed to advancing the industrialization of hydrogen energy technology, and Bosch has demonstrated the capability to quickly scale up new innovations to mass production. The inauguration of our new Chongqing facility is one of the solid proofs for this,” remarked Markus Heyn, member of the Bosch board of management and chairman of the Mobility business sector.
