In addition to the production of Superpanther electric trucks, Steyr Automotive factory located in the Austrian city of Steyr will also see the production of Chinese brand Sinotruck diesel and electric industrial vehicles. Indeed, according to Steyr Automotive, the very first vehicle was completed at the beginning of March, 2026.

Initially, assembly will be carried out using SKD (Semi-Knocked Down) construction methods. As production volumes increase, there are plans to expand to CKD (Completely Knocked Down) production, which will also include cab manufacturing and painting in Steyr. The workforce will be expanded gradually as volumes and added value increase.

Sinotruck starts vehicle manufacturing in Steyr, Austria

“The collaboration includes the provision of state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, infrastructure, and capacities at the Steyr site for the production of vehicles for the EMEA region. For Steyr Automotive, the production of Sinotruk vehicles expands its customer base in the contract manufacturing business”, stated Steyr Automotive.

This means two Chinese truck makers will now manufacture their vehicles in Europe, namely in Steyr. Diesel and electric trucks manufactured by Sinotruck, the same we saw at the latest edition of IAA Transportation, two years ago, will be marketed under the Sitrak brand.
