The Chinese market is pretty peculiar when it comes to electrification, even in the heavy-duty segment. Indeed, while Europe is still facing some serious issues about the penetration of heavy-duty electric trucks, China is paving the way looking at the future.

Now, as reported by Electrive, quoting Chinese sources such as CNEVpost.com or CV World, the share of New Energy vehicles (then electric, PHEV, EREV, and hydrogen-powered trucks) outplaced the shared of ICE trucks in December 2025. More into details, over 45,000 new energy trucks were sold in the last month of 2025, making 54% of the overall sales in China. Throughout the year, over 231,000 new energy heavy-duty trucks were registered in the Far Eastern country (+182% compared to 2024).

Trucks in China: the latest market trends

Looking at the data referred to the whole year, the number of new energy trucks steadily increased, as well as their share. In February, it was just 17%, with over 8,000 NE trucks registered. The annual share of new energy vehicles in the commercial transport segment was 29% in 2025.

CNEVpost.com, usually very well informed about the trends of the Chinese market, stated that “the electrification trend in the heavy-duty truck industry is seen as unstoppable”. Looking at the Chinese territory, “Shanghai led China in new energy heavy-duty truck registrations in 2025 with 34,100 units, followed by Shenzhen with 11,700 units and Guangzhou with 9,685 units”, added CNEVpost.com.
