During an event held in Verona, at the HQs of MAN Truck & Bus Italia, the first two eTGX electric road tractors were delivered to the Bergamo-based logistics group Koinè. The vehicles, which will be used for logistics on behalf of the Gruppo Sanpellegrino (water production), are part of an agreement that aims to add up to 50 units to Koinè’s fleet, “leading the sector in terms of environmental impact thanks to the support of the best technologies available in terms of efficiency and reliability,” as stated by MAN.

More into details, the first two new electric trucks, equipped with a 544 hp MAN eCD400 electric motor with 1,250 Nm of torque and six battery packs with a gross capacity of 534 kWh, will initially be used to cover the routes from the Sanpellegrino plants to the depots located in the cities of Madone and Levate for a total of 250,000 km per year. These routes have been identified to optimize charging times and maximize battery range.

MAN eTGX: the e-truck is becoming quite popular in Italy

The project was also developed thanks to the support of MOON POWER Italia, a Volkswagen Group Italia brand dedicated to B2B charging solutions, which provided energy consulting services together with MAN Transport Solutions.

“We are proud to accompany Koinè on this journey. The delivery of the first two MAN eTGX trucks confirms the trust in our brand and our vision for zero-emission transport. This is an important signal for the sector: the transition to sustainable mobility is possible and is already happening in Italy. To accelerate this change, we need clear policies, effective consulting, and forward-thinking entrepreneurs who aspire to build tomorrow, in a continuous collaborative effort that makes logistics an increasingly green and competitive business,” commented Marc Martinez, Managing Director of MAN Italia.

“After years of investing in the best technologies offered by combustion vehicles such as HVO, the time has come to open a new chapter in our sector’s energy transition. Most customers today are aiming to electrify one or two routes without any medium- to long-term planning,” added Paolo Toccafondi, managing director and shareholder of Koinè S.p.A. “There are several reasons for this: limited government incentives, the current lack of public charging infrastructure, and doubts about vehicle range. Koinè has decided to go its own way: investing in the development of a zero-impact energy self-production system thanks to the construction of the new logistics hub in Levate, which will be able to produce up to 5 MW, and only then involving our customers. Our ambition is to electrify up to one-third of our fleet over the next three years”.
