Stellantis will pull back from hydrogen-related projects in the UK. The news was reported by Fleet News, dealing with the commercial vehicle side of the international group, which includes brands such as FIAT Professional, Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel (Vauxhall in the UK). Lack of investment in infrastructure and incentives at national level were the reasons of the strategic decision, announced by Fedele Ragusa, Stellantis senior product manager, in a dedicated interview.

Stellantis won’t rely on hydrogen in the UK

Indeed, Stellantis had several ongoing projects related on hydrogen development. Some of them had been announced and put on display at some major transportation exhibitions in the last few years. According to Fleet News, “The move is part of a wider review of the global decarbonisation strategy which has now shifted away from the target of becoming 100% zero emission by 2030, introduced by former CEO Carlos Tavares”. Let’s remind that Tavares has been recently replaced by Antonio Filosa as global CEO of Stellantis.

At the beginning of May, 2024, the global group announced the intention to “produce 100,000 hydrogen-powered vehicles by the end of the decade“.
