In recent days, a video has been circulating on social media, posted on Tesla’s official X account, showing a Tesla Semi electric truck being charged at a peak power of 1.2 MW. This is a remarkable figure, which would allow the truck to go from 10 to 80 percent charge in less than 45 minutes.

Ultra fast charging for the Tesla Semi

It should be noted that the video does not show any other details, such as the initial charge status, nor does it show whether the peak power is maintained for a long period of time. In any case, it is an important sign of technological developments in the charging infrastructure for electric trucks. In fact, last spring Tesla announced that it was working on the development of superchargers specifically designed for heavy transport, with the aim of increasing range by 70 percent in 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, other charging station manufacturers, including Finland’s Kempower, are also testing so-called megawatt charging in Europe in recent months. We saw the Tesla Semi in Europe at the latest edition of the IAA in Hanover in September 2024. Since then, to be honest, there have been no major developments regarding the production process of the Tesla electric truck. The stated goal is to be ready for series production, initially destined for the North American market, in the first half of 2026. The Semi is expected to be produced at Tesla’s gigafactory in Nevada.
