Thermo King E-Series supports zero-emission seafood deliveries in the Netherlands
Seafood Centre Scheveningen has introduced an electric refrigerated vehicle equipped with a Thermo King E-400 unit for urban seafood distribution in the Netherlands. The application combines electric propulsion and refrigeration to support temperature-controlled deliveries in city centres, including areas subject to zero-emission vehicle restrictions.

Seafood Centre Scheveningen, a Dutch seafood distribution business, has introduced a fully electric refrigerated delivery vehicle fitted with a Thermo King E-400 refrigeration unit.
The vehicle was developed by Dutch bodybuilder Carrosserie Elenbaas, using a Citroën ë-Jumpy electric chassis with a low-floor cab configuration. According to the bodybuilder, it is the first fully electric vehicle of this particular configuration delivered in the Netherlands.
Electric refrigeration for urban seafood distribution
The Thermo King E-400 refrigeration system is powered through the vehicle’s electric power take-off (e-PTO), allowing the refrigeration equipment to operate electrically without a separate diesel-powered unit.
The vehicle’s bodywork has been designed with particular attention to thermal insulation, low weight and ease of access. The low entry height is intended to facilitate frequent stops during urban distribution operations.
The application illustrates how electric refrigeration can be integrated into compact commercial vehicles used to transport temperature-sensitive products such as fresh seafood.

For operators working in urban areas, combining electric propulsion with electric refrigeration can eliminate local exhaust emissions from both the vehicle and its refrigeration equipment, while reducing operating noise. The project also demonstrates an application of Thermo King’s E-Series technology in specialised last-mile cold-chain logistics.
