FAW Trucks is preparing to bring its Cortron CS heavy-duty range to the European commercial vehicle market. At IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover, the Chinese manufacturer displayed the diesel-powered CS600 and CS600 XXL tractors alongside the battery-electric CS925. All three vehicles share FAW Trucks’ seventh-generation heavy-duty platform.

During the event, we had the opportunity to visit the FAW Trucks stand together with other members of the international press and take a closer look at the vehicles. A company representative introduced us to the different models, starting with the CS600, featuring a 2.4-metre-long cab, and the larger CS600 XXL, whose cab extends to 2.8 metres.

The additional space available in the latter is immediately noticeable and, as our FAW representative explained, is intended to provide better resting conditions on longer journeys.

Both vehicles are powered by a 13-litre diesel engine delivering up to 600 hp. For the European specification, FAW indicated a 12-speed ZF TraXon automated transmission. The manufacturer also has its own internally developed transmission, designed to handle higher torque levels, and produces its rear axles in-house.

Inside, the trucks feature an entirely new dashboard as well as voice-control functions. Drivers can, for example, ask the vehicle to open the windows. For FAW, onboard space and ease of use are particularly important for a truck designed for long-distance operations and frequent overnight stays.

The transition from exhibition vehicle to trucks operating on European roads will also depend on the development of FAW’s commercial organisation. The manufacturer told us it is working to strengthen its dealer and service network, while the trucks are currently undergoing what can broadly be described as customer testing.

The target is to have the vehicles operating on public roads by the end of 2027. Volumes would then be increased progressively, in parallel with the network’s ability to support vehicles in operation.

TL.X concept looks ten years ahead

Alongside the models intended for the market, FAW Trucks unveiled the TL.X concept, developed with 2036 in mind.

The idea is to use a common platform capable of accommodating five different powertrain systems, with the stated aim of reducing logistics costs. The concept also rethinks both the appearance and use of the truck cab.

Its exterior surfaces are more sculpted than the traditionally boxy shape of a heavy-duty truck. A large display at the front could be used to communicate with people outside the vehicle – for example, signalling to pedestrians that the truck is about to move.

Inside, FAW envisages additional space for resting, working and other activities, also taking into account the potential development of autonomous driving.

The Chinese manufacturer’s representative stressed that the TL.X remains a concept. Some of the technologies behind it are already available, but the vehicle itself still requires further development. The Cortron CS range, by contrast, is considerably closer to the road.
