Portuguese charge point operator REMO, part of the Mota-Engil group, is expanding the deployment of Kempower DC fast-charging infrastructure across Spain and Portugal, targeting both public and depot applications.

The partnership covers passenger cars as well as commercial transport, with charging infrastructure being deployed at freight corridors, logistics depots, retail and hospitality locations and bus facilities. REMO installs, operates and services the chargers on both sides of the Spain-Portugal border.

Electric truck and bus charging in Portugal

Recent projects include charging infrastructure for Luís Simões, one of Portugal’s largest logistics operators. Chargers have been deployed at the company’s Lisbon and Oporto hubs, supporting the electrification of freight operations between two of the country’s main logistics areas.

REMO has also installed charging capacity for Portuguese public transport operator VALPI, supporting a fleet of 20 electric buses.

The two deployments illustrate the broader strategy behind the partnership: rather than developing separate networks for different vehicle categories, REMO is using the same underlying charging technology across applications ranging from passenger cars to heavy commercial vehicles.

Kempower’s distributed charging technology

At the heart of the installations is Kempower’s distributed DC charging architecture. A central Power Unit supplies multiple charging connectors, dynamically allocating available power according to the real-time requirements of each connected vehicle.

According to the companies, this approach allows charging sites to be expanded progressively as demand increases, while making more efficient use of available power and potentially limiting the need for oversized infrastructure from the outset.

The cooperation between the two companies started in early 2025, when REMO began deploying Kempower DC fast chargers across the Iberian Peninsula.

“Iberia is electrifying fast across every kind of vehicle at once,” commented Guillermo Lopez Arias, Kempower Country Manager for Iberia, pointing to the possibility of using the same distributed technology at shopping centres, logistics hubs and bus depots.
