The Waste Management and City Cleaning Service of the City of Chemnitz, in Germany, not far from Dresden, has now expanded and modernized its fleet with the addition of eleven new Mercedes Econic vehicles. The latter will be used for waste management activities, and were recently handed over to the operation at the Mercedes‑Benz Trucks Customer Experience Center in Wörth am Rhein.

More into details, the new vehicles will be used as rear loaders with compactor bodies from various manufacturers and will operate in single-shift mode throughout the urban area of Chemnitz. Typically, each vehicle is staffed with two to three employees.

Mercedes Econic: some key features

The Mercedes‑Benz Econic, also available in its fully electric version, is specifically designed for use in urban environments. Its design and maneuverability make it particularly suitable for narrow streets and heavy city traffic. In addition, its chassis can be flexibly combined with various body types, making it a well‑established vehicle in municipal waste collection for many years.

“The Econic has proven itself in our daily operations for many years. The combination of low entry height and great visibility brings real benefits for our employees while also enhancing safety in urban traffic,” commented Sven Postel, Head of Department at the Waste Management and City Cleaning Service of the City of Chemnitz.
