The well-established Treviso-based transport company Codognotto has acquired a Volvo FH Aero Electric (Sustainable Truck of the Year 2025 in the E-Truck category) that will enable it to transport furniture on behalf of Inter IKEA Group on three different routes between IKEA warehouse and two IKEA stores in Northern Italy, with an estimated 252 days of operation per year.

The electric truck, in combination with the semi-trailer, has a total weight of 44 tons, while the battery packs that power the motor have a capacity of 540 kWh for an estimated range of approximately 500 km per day, with the possibility of recharging, of course. As stated by Volvo, the project aims to efficiently integrate inbound and outbound logistics, connecting IKEA suppliers to distribution centers and subsequently to stores in Corsico (near Milan) and Padua. IKEA aims to achieve 100% zero-emission deliveries by the end of the decade.

“This is an important step in IKEA’s transport decarbonization journey, while also improving efficiency. Thanks to this new three-way partnership, we are able to jointly define the optimal operating model and develop a solution that reduces overall costs by cutting downtime and optimizing route utilization. We are confident that this new transport system will generate significant value, contributing in particular to improving air quality and reducing noise pollution on Italian roads,” said Ewelina Taylor, Global Transport Manager at Inter IKEA Group.

“The delivery of the first Volvo electric truck to logistics operator Codognotto marks a significant milestone in the transition to more sustainable logistics. We share a commitment to innovation, the pursuit of efficiency, and a practical approach to proposing solutions for reducing environmental impact. All this is not so obvious or immediate, but is the result of a project that began a long time ago, involving parties that do not usually take part in traditional negotiations,” added Sabrina Loner, eMob | Product | Homologation Director at Volvo Trucks Italia.
