Westport becomes Aetherion Technologies, sharpening its focus on heavy-duty transport
Canadian company Westport Fuel Systems has officially changed its name to Aetherion Technologies, reflecting a stronger focus on alternative fuel systems for heavy-duty transport. The new identity highlights the company's strategy around high-pressure fuel technologies, including its Cespira joint venture with Volvo Group and future hydrogen applications.

Westport Fuel Systems has announced its rebranding as Aetherion Technologies, marking a new chapter for the Canadian company specialising in alternative fuel technologies for commercial vehicles.
Announced on 15 October 2026, the name change reflects a strategic focus on commercially available solutions for reducing emissions from heavy-duty transport, particularly through the use of natural gas, renewable fuels and, in the longer term, hydrogen.
Founded in 1995, Westport built its reputation around high-pressure direct injection (HPDI) technology, developed to enable heavy-duty internal combustion engines to operate on alternative fuels while maintaining performance characteristics comparable to diesel engines.
According to the company, the new name represents a return to this original technological vision, rather than a departure from its existing business.
Cespira and HPDI technology remain central to the strategy
A key component of Aetherion’s portfolio is its majority ownership interest in Cespira, the joint venture established with Volvo Group to develop and commercialise HPDI fuel systems.

According to Aetherion, HPDI technology is currently used in more than 12,000 trucks worldwide, providing an established commercial base for further development. Cespira reported revenue of $27.1 million in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 125% increase compared with the same period of the previous year.
Alongside its investment in Cespira, Aetherion will continue developing high-pressure compressed natural gas storage systems, fuel system components and control technologies.
The company sees opportunities to expand HPDI applications beyond LNG and bioLNG, including renewable natural gas in North America and.
A new identity, but no changes to existing operations
“Aetherion represents both our origin and our future,” said Dan Sceli, CEO of Aetherion Technologies. “Fleets and OEMs need technologies that preserve the performance they’re accustomed to, at a lower cost, while helping them meet increasingly complex regulatory and climate objectives.”
The company has clarified that the rebranding will not affect its operations, ownership structure or existing commitments to customers, employees and partners.
