Leading Chinese battery maker CATL has provided a major update on its battery swapping business, which was launched about three years ago, with the establishment of the company’s battery swap brand, EVOGO, which is managed by its subsidiary, Contemporary Amperex Energy Service Technology (CAES). CATL announced the introduction of standardized battery packs for passenger vehicles and revealed ambitious infrastructure plans during the Choco-SEB (Swapping Electric Block) eco-conference in Xiamen, Fujian province, as reported by cnevpost.com.

CATL swappable battery packs

CATL has revamped the concept of swappable battery packs by consolidating them into a single pack that can be used by conventional vehicles. The company remains committed to promoting battery swap standardization, with a focus on uniform battery sizes, as explained by Robin Zeng, the founder, chairman, and CEO of CATL.

CATL’s battery swap service follows a BaaS (Battery as a Service) model, where customers only need to purchase the vehicle chassis and rent the battery. The company has set a long-term goal of establishing 30,000 battery swap stations, with the 20,000th to 30,000th stations being developed by the broader society.
