The EU Commission has officially proposed electric truck toll exemption until June 30, 2025
The EU Commission has proposed extending toll exemption until June 30, 2031. This is a much longer time frame, which is expected to allow transport companies that want to transition to electric mobility to deduct the cost of tolls, thus making the TCO of a truck over its lifetime more favorable. At this point, the usual institutional process at EU level will have to begin, with the Parliament and the Council called upon to validate and approve the Commission's proposal.

We wrote about it in this article just a few weeks ago. The EU Commission had the intention to propose an extension of the measure that exempts zero-emission trucks from paying tolls on European roads. Currently, these types of vehicles are exempt until December of this year.
Now, it’s official. The EU Commission has proposed extending toll exemption until June 30, 2031. This is a much longer time frame, which is expected to allow transport companies that want to transition to electric mobility to deduct the cost of tolls, thus making the TCO of a truck over its lifetime more favorable.
Getting closer to electric truck toll exemption until 2031
The Commission’s measure is widely anticipated and, of course, consistent with a system that aims to encourage the use of electric vehicles in heavy transport as well. The transition to electric trucks for medium- to long-range transport is by no means easy, as the latest market analyses clearly show. Unlike the medium-light truck segment, the expected surge in electric truck registrations has not yet materialized.
At this point, the usual institutional process at EU level will have to begin, with the Parliament and the Council called upon to validate and approve the Commission’s proposal. According to analysts, however, the process could be fairly quick, so as not to interrupt the toll exemption.
