Frigoblock FK25i refrigeration unit equips the first fully electric refrigerated truck to operate in Spain. Local supermarket chain Alimerka estimates that the new electric MAN eTGM truck with Frigoblock’s inverter driven FK25i refrigeration unit will save them 60 tons of CO2 per year compared to traditional diesel fuelled vehicle with an annual mileage of 60.000 km. The low noise electric refrigerated truck is an optimal solution for Alimerka’s urban operations, allowing them to make zero-emission deliveries outside of peak hours and at night. Frigoblock is a brand belonging to the Thermo King group, among the benchmarks in Europe as for transport refrigeration units.

MAN eTGM and Frigoblock FK25i refrigeration unit

The Frigoblock refrigerated MAN eTGM truck from Almerika has an autonomy of 180 kilometres. This allows it to operate a full working day on last-mile routes in the urban areas of Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés. The recharging time of the vehicle is between 1 and 1.5 hours and is carried out using fast-charging chargers located in the Alimerka Logistics Center. Part of the energy comes from the installation of more than 7,500 photovoltaic panels – the largest solar panel installation in the Asturias region.

Statements from Frigoblock and Alimerka

«At Frigoblock we are dedicated to sustainable innovation. We use our expertise in electric transport refrigeration to support our customers in their efforts towards greener and more efficient operations», said Francisco Cambra, sales manager for Spain and Portugal at Thermo King and Frigoblock. «Seeing Frigoblock technology enabling Alimerka to operate the first electric refrigerated truck in Spain, is an important achievement for us. This project marks a major step in transport electrification and towards zero-emission urban distribution in Spain».

«The combination of MAN eTGM truck and Frigoblock’s FK25i contributes significantly to an efficient delivery model. The possibility to enter Low Emission Zones at any time of day or night, when traffic is lower and parking easier, allows us to save time, increase punctuality and uptime», added Pelayo Alonso Naves, fleet and maintenance manager at Alimerka
