Several German media platforms report the news that Mercedes-Benz Vans may soon remove the eCitan and EQT from the company’s lineup of available vans. At the same time, production might be discontinued from 2026. With the eCitan, Mercedes has recently completed the range of electric light commercial vehicles.

The eCitan was recently launched as a Panel Van with a choice of two lengths: the 4498 mm compact version and the 4922 mm long version. As a Tourer for commercial passenger transport, the van has been initially sold as a “compact” version. The eCitan has got 90 kW power, with 45 kWh batteries and range of about 280 km according to the WLTP standard.

Mercedes eCitan: cooperation with Renault on the van platform

The origins of the Citan, and then of its electric version, lay in the collaboration with Renault, as the van was conceived under the same platform of the Renault Kangoo light commercial vehicle. “In line with the ‘growth in profitable segments’ strategy communicated in May 2023, we are deploying our investments in a targeted manner and further optimising our product portfolio. We are therefore focussing on the midsize and large van segment in future and will end our involvement in the small van segment next year”. Such statement was reported by Electrive, quoting  the German publication Auto, Motor und Sport.

“We will continue to fulfil our responsibility as a manufacturer for our small van products on the market: spare parts will be available for the Citan, eCitan, T-Class and EQT for up to 10 years and mobility-related spare parts for up to 15 years after the end of production”. This is another quote Mercedes apparently sent to its dealers.
