The newest generation of the Mercedes-Benz Citan is already available, while for the eCitan small van we’ll have to wait until next year. During a press test held in Hamburg we had the opportunity to meet Peter Oehler, Product Marketing Small Vans at Mercedes-Benz, who told us about the main features and changes of the latest ICE versions of the iconic van which was officially launched in August this year. Outside, but also inside the van, a lot has changed to make it more in line with the Mercedes style, as well as with the Star’s range of commercial vehicles.

Waiting for the eCitan van. The main technical features

The eCitan will be launched in the second half of 2022, following the eVito and eSprinter. As Peter Oehler explained, customers do not need to make concessions when it comes to the dimensions of the load compartment and the available payload in comparison to conventional models. The range in accordance with WLTP is expected to be around 285 kilometres. The electric motor available for the several eCitan body variants will deliver a peak performance of 90 kW/122 hp. Maximum torque is 245 Nm. The lithium-ion battery is positioned in the underbody ahead of the rear axle, where it is also protected against crashes. It offers a usable capacity of 44 kWh. The eight battery modules use pouch cells.
