Global EV batteries: CATL still on top, sharing with BYD over 55% of the market

More into details, CATL boosts nearly 40% (39.2%) of the overall market share, with BYD following at 16.4%. While CATL has been growing in 2025, compared to the previous year, BYD recorded a slightly less market share in 2025. “Global EV battery installations reached 1,187 GWh in 2025, a 31.7% increase from 901.4 GWh in the same period last year”, stated the Chinese website, quoting the data released South Korean market research firm SNE Research.

Following the chart, Korean player LG Energy Solution recorded battery installations for 108.8 GWh in 2025, marking an 11.3% year-on-year increase, meaning a 9.2% market share. Below, China’s CALB ranked fourth with a 5.3% share. China’s Gotion High-tech came in fifth with a 4.5% share, followed by South Korea’s SK On (3.7%). “Japan’s Panasonic, China’s Eve Energy, South Korea’s Samsung SDI, and China’s Svolt Energy ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth respectively, with market shares of 3.7%, 2.6%, 2.4%, and 2.4% in 2025″, summarized CNEVPost.
