The participation of IVECO in IAA Transportation 2022, scheduled from 20 to 25 September, will be a very significant one. The Italian-based group will showcase the electric Daily as a world premiere in Hannover, as officially declared by Gerrit Marx, Iveco Group CEO, during the IAA press workshop held on June 28. The long-awaited electric version of the best-seller light truck (above is the well-known ICE version) will have “a full modular platform – said Marx – with several battery options. Each battery pack has a capacity of 37 kWh and customers will be able to choose between one, two or three battery packs, according to their specific requirements in terms of weight and especially range. We wanted to keep it simple”, stated the CEO during the press event.

IVECO at IAA Transportation 2022

The IAA Transportation exhibition will also be the place where IVECO introduces a prototype of Daily with fuel cells, equipped with 10 kg of hydrogen standing 700 bar. Quite a special place will be reserved to FPT, the powertrain division within the Iveco Group, which will put on display the full line up of electric axles, as well as the new generation of axles. As for powertrain, Marx anticipated that FPT is currently testing hydrogen-powered ICEs. We asked him whether they truly believe in such technology. “Hydrogen ICEs do have emissions, even though very little” he answered. “The molecule of hydrogen is very small and the sealing density is a big challenge. Moreover, it’s very risky and in case of problems it can damage the whole powertrain. To make it short, there are still a lot of issues to be faced, but as a group we want to be present and test all the possible technologies”.

We’ll see the Nikola Tre truck in the BEV and FCEV versions

IVECO will put on display 16 vehicles in its booth, as well as 27 vehicles in the external area. Among the trucks on display is the 4×2 Nikola Tre electric truck, which is currently being produced in Ulm. At IAA Transportation, we’ll see the BEV and FCEV European versions of the zero-emission truck resulting from the joint venture with the U.S.-based manufacturer. The schedule for production addressed to Europe is quite tight: mid-2023 for the BEV truck and the end of 2023 for the FCEV truck.
