BYD ETT 44 enters Europe with 600 km range and megawatt charging

BYD has made one of its most significant moves yet into the European commercial vehicle market, officially presenting the ETT 44, its new battery-electric 4×2 tractor, at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover.

The truck sits at the top of a significantly expanded European commercial vehicle line-up covering applications from urban distribution and municipal services to regional and long-haul transport. But it is the ETT 44 that most clearly signals BYD’s ambitions in the European heavy-duty market.

Developed from the ground up as a native electric platform, the ETT 44 is equipped with a 651 kWh Blade Battery and delivers up to 750 kW, or more than 1,000 hp.

BYD claims a rated range of 600 km. The truck also supports the company’s Flash Charging technology at up to 1.5 MW, which according to BYD can take the battery from 20 to 80% in approximately 20 minutes, adding up to 400 km of range.

BYD targets long-haul transport with the ETT 44

The specifications put the ETT 44 firmly into the long-haul conversation, rather than limiting BYD’s European heavy-truck ambitions to urban and regional applications.

The purpose-built electric architecture combines the Blade Battery and high-power charging with a driver-focused cab and an advanced ADAS package. BYD also says the truck has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

The manufacturer makes the ambitious claim that the ETT 44 is already capable of replacing diesel trucks on their missions. Actual operational suitability will inevitably depend on factors including route, payload and charging availability, but the combination of 600 km rated range and megawatt charging shows the type of heavy-duty applications BYD intends to address.

And charging is an important part of the proposition. BYD is positioning the truck not as a standalone product but within an ecosystem that includes charging infrastructure, energy storage and energy management.

“Today, we are bringing Flash Charging technology to commercial vehicles starting with our trucks,” said Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD. “With 1.5 megawatts of charging power, it can charge from 20% to 80% in about 20 minutes – delivering up to 400 kilometres of range.”

A broader BYD electric truck line-up for Europe

The ETT 44 is accompanied by a wider range of electric commercial vehicles, including the T020 and T028 rigid trucks, aimed at regional distribution and special applications.

BYD is also targeting last-mile delivery, sanitation and municipal applications, as well as electric yard tractors – an application the manufacturer sees as particularly suitable for battery-electric operation because of its predictable duty cycle.

The company’s European strategy extends beyond vehicles. BYD intends to combine its in-house battery expertise with charging infrastructure, stationary energy storage and energy management, alongside financing and leasing solutions. It has also established a dedicated European sales and technical team for commercial vehicle applications.

With the new range presented in Hannover, BYD is therefore moving beyond its established European presence in electric buses and passenger cars and making a much more direct push into the continent’s heavy-duty truck market.
