Renault Group and Valeo have announced that there will be no partnership aimed at developing electric motors without rare earth materials. The project had been announced a couple of years ago, as we wrote in this article which dates back to November 2023. More into details, each partner was supposed to act as a key part (Renault Group the rotor, Valeo the stator) as well as their expertise in technology development and production.

Renault and Valeo abandoned the expected partnership

According to Reuters, “Renault’s decision to end Valeo’s involvement in the rare-earth free motor project and the French carmaker’s search for a lower-cost Chinese supplier have not previously been reported. The move was driven by the need to cut costs, both sources said, with Chinese suppliers offering very competitive prices”.

Renault apparently stated that the Group might be in search of a Chinese partner to replace Valeo, with the latter unavailable to release an official comment on the subject.
