Renault Group is planning to reduce its global engineering workforce by 15–20% over the next two years, according to media reports citing a company spokesperson. The measure could affect up to 2,400 employees.

According to the restructuring strategy led by CEO François Provost, who succeeded Luca de Meo, one of the targets is to align more closely with Chinese operating models in order to enhance competitiveness. China is also playing an increasingly central role in Renault’s electric vehicle development strategy, mainly in the passenger car sector.

Renault’s engineering team reduction

Since taking office, Provost has reviewed and, in several cases, scaled back initiatives launched under the previous leadership. These include projects linked to the Mobilize mobility brand, the planned spin-off of the EV division Ampere, and the Flexis joint venture for electric commercial vehicles—originally established with Volvo Group and CMA CGM—which is now expected to come fully under Renault’s control.
