Earlier in August, electric vehicle maker Rivian was forced to halt production of Amazon-branded delivery vans. According to Reuters, “the production halt is the latest in a series of supply chain challenges for Rivian, which, like other EV makers, has grappled with significant production issues over the past two years due to supplier shortages”.

Rivian electric delivery vans

The main Rivian factory is located in Normal, Illinois, while a second assembly plant is currently planned in Georgia. So far, Rivian has not revealed which parts have been missing, although a mail sent by the company has reassured about the planned production recovery. Not long ago, Rivian announced the intention to produce and sell its electric vans also in the free market, in addition to the current agreement signed with a giant such as Amazon. Amazon has indeed invested directly into Rivian, with a 16% stake.
