One thing is for sure. Scania is revving up its electric truck production on an European scale, at least. The Swedish manufacturer has a whole range of options available for those customers interested in zero-emission vehicles. Nevertheless, in the last months, Scania was involved in the challenging times experienced by Northvolt, still struggling to keep its targets. Among which the production of battery cells in the greenest possible way stands out.

Scania (and TRATON) CEO, Christian Levin, more than once in the last weeks said something about this topic. As we wrote here, during a webcall, he said that Scania had the intention to stick to the plan and use Northvolt battery cells on some of its electric trucks, i.e. the ones for regional haulage. Levin also added that Scania and the other TRATON brands understand the challenging situation Northvolt is experiencing, although he preferred not to add more on the issue.

Christian Levin on the future of the Scania-Northvolt cooperation

Now, in a new interview with Reuters, Christian Levin opened to the possibility for Scania to talk to other battery cell makers, in order to prevent any possible trouble with Northvolt supply. “We talk to everyone in order to make sure that we are not going to end up in problems if they (Northvolt) have problems,” are the words spoken by CEO Levin, as reported by Reuters. “We support them in any way we can,” Levin added about the relationship with Northvolt.

Of course, Christian Levin did not provide any further details about other battery cell makers.
