With the aim of filling the gap left by the end of national incentives addressed to e-truck purchase, the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia has recently allocated 15 million euros to support the transition in the transportation sector. Indeed, the removal of national funding left several transport companies unprepared coping with the current energy transition.

It is important to mention that the purchase price of a zero-emission truck is significantly higher compared to a conventional diesel truck, although several studies show that the TCO is getting closer, or rather favourable for electric vehicles.

E-truck incentives in North Rhine-Westphalia

“With this initiative, we are bridging the funding gap left by the federal government and aiming to support the transition to electric mobility,” the Press Office of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia stated to Mobility Portal Europe.

More into details, according to the specialized portal, “the call for applications is open to all private and municipal companies based in North Rhine-Westphalia. Each company can receive up to 500,000 euros, with a maximum of 300,000 euros per vehicle. Finally, the funding covers up to 60% of the additional investment costs, including both the purchase and leasing of vehicles”.
