Following the joint venture binding agreements signed on October 6th, 2023, Renault Group and Volvo Group have obtained the required regulatory approvals to officially launch the new company for the next generation of fully electric vans based on a Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) platform.

The newly-announced joint venture is aimed at accelerating the commercialization and global adoption of Westport's HPDI fuel system technology for long-haul and off-road applications.

Volvo communicated that the acquisition was made at a purchase price of USD 210M before adjustment for inventory level at closing. The agreement includes a development center for battery modules and packs in California and an assembly factory in Greer, South Carolina.

The coalition was established by Daimler Truck North America, Navistar, Inc. (belonging to the TRATON Group), and Volvo Group North America. The Groups involved are the same that managed to create the Milence project in Europe.
